Termite Barriers, Chemical or Monitoring Stations

Termite Barriers and is it a Rip off?
In most articles i have been looking over it seems that the majority of people seem to believe termite barriers are in some way a rip off and have a negative spin on their stories in regards to a Termite Barriers.
Let me break it down for the majority of people that are concerned on protecting their home from termites but are not sure to invest money in a professional pest company to be contracted in a barrier installation.
A Professional Pest Consultation or "Management" company that is contracted by yourself to 1st of all inspect your home AS3660.2-2000 Visual Termite inspection and give "Honest" advice and not just sell you a Termite Barrier because they found a area that is active with termites and tell you you need some type of termite barrier, our Insurances require us to give you a free Proposal to manage Termite activity which is some type of termite monitoring or chemical barrier and do not feel as if you have to have one, remember it's a recommendation and the Australian Standards are what we as Professional Pest Consultant use as a guideline as an optimal service to you the client.

Chemical Treatment:
So depending on the liner meters of a property and what we quote to protect and what type of system we recommend is part of the $$$$, in most cases a chemical barrier either Biflex a repellant chemical or Termidor a non repellant will factor in the proposal, the chemical ratio and warranty in ground,  but more to the fact is the labour and it will depend on concrete drilling, plugging with plastic plugs, digging trenches, moving landscape and then re installing your landscape and finally cleaning up after the job has been finished making it look like we have not been there at all, it's a real work of art that in most cases takes around 2 days, 1 person to complete the task which range from $3000.00 to $5000.00

Monitoring Stations( non chemical)
Again the Linear meters are the factor to all protection but now it's a Termite Monitoring inground unit every 3 meters and depending on different types of brands which are all extremely good will be supplied and installed without any chemicals and monitored depending on the pressure of activity between 1 month and every 3 months, we inspect site baits every 1 month, with the cost simular to to chemical barrier above but in this case we are on site each month which is a massive factor of minimising termite activity"Visual identification" we actually see the colony break down and be eliminated.

So the Question is, Is Termite Barriers a rip off? my answer is NO, having a Family Owned Business like Zone Pest and Property that do not work on commission like some larger firms or subcontractors and give genuine advice for your best interests which is usually the case, go with you gut.

Worst case People is to have inspections every 3 month which would cost around $880.00 each year, Inspections are the key to keeping your family home or investment from expensive damages from Termite activity.

Thanks for reading and i hope i have helped in some way, we look forward to managing your home soon.

Matt

Ants around your home and how to manage them.

Ant Control

Ants are a big part of the ecosystem and when i explain to our clients that we offer a 12 month warranty on ant control i explain that in the garden there are literally thousands of ants that are there and there is an abundant food source out in the landscape, then why are they coming inside? as like termites they are attracted to moisture and proteins like the good old honey jar in the kitchen cupboard. having an annual pest treatment will most definitely minimise any ant activity in your home but basic house keeping is another huge part of keeping ants away from the inside of your home.
Keeping sweet products and even ambient foods inside plastic airtight lockable containers after opening them will give no excuse for ants and even cockroaches to show up in the areas inside your home, check your cupboards right now and see for yourself..open cereal boxes, dripping honey jars, even clearing out your cupboards every month tidy up and see how much food scraps are lying around it's a good practice to do these things to minimise and even stop any cycles of pests inside your home.
Now what we do when we have an ant issue... Using the right tools for the job and in this case the correct chemical is the key to keeping the ants out of your home so we use Termidor a non repellent which transfers back to the nearest queen to your home or Gels that attract and transfer as well.
As i said at the beginning of this blog the ant is a good indication of a great eco system in your garden so give mother nature a chance to do her thing however in some cases or clients we do minimise ants in the garden where they are overpopulated and start to destroy garden vegetation and so we need to control these situations.
We have also seen best results with ant control earlier in the morning rather than late in the afternoon if your looking to DIY ant control.

Rental Properties and Termite activity.

On most of our Termite Inspections or Pest Treatments i have been amazed on the lack of termite inspections conducted on properties.
On monday last week i conducted a end of lease pest treatment "Flea Treatment" and as i was inspecting the grounds for any fleas i came across termites on the fence line in timbers on the ground, most renters do not care of any conditions on site and why should they? it's not their own investment or family home? This is not the attitude people should have because the neighbouring properties are in danger of damages or termite infestation to their investment and can be eliminated just by having a concern of property maintenance, keep gardens neat and clean and look at the rental as there own and consider their owners and surrounding neighbours.
