Pest Control and Termite Management Specialists Servicing the Northern Rivers, Tweed Coast & Gold Coast
Termites are one of the most destructive pests in Australia, causing millions of dollars in property damage each year. In the Northern Rivers, Tweed Heads, and Gold Coast regions, subterranean termites are especially active due to the warm, moist climate, making effective termite protection
essential for homeowners and builders alike.
At Zone Pest, we specialise in the application of chemical termite barriers designed to defend your home from the ground up.
But what exactly is a termite barrier, and why is it so important?

Protecting Your Property from the Ground Up
What is a Termite Barrier?
A termite barrier is a professionally applied treatment designed to protect a building by creating a treated zone in the soil around the structure. This zone works by either repelling or eliminating termites that attempt to enter your property via concealed underground pathways.
Zone Pest exclusively recommends non-repellent chemical barriers, which are far more effective in eliminating termite threats. Rather than simply turning termites away (which can force them to look for alternative — and often more dangerous — entry points), non-repellent barriers allow termites to unknowingly pass through the treated zone. As they do, they come into contact with the active ingredient,
which is transferred throughout the colony, leading to full eradication.
Why Non-Repellent Barriers are Best
One of the most critical reasons to use a non-repellent system, such as Termidor SE or Termidor HE, is the risk of an undetected termite nest already existing beneath your home’s concrete slab. If a repellent system is used in this case, termites could become trapped and forced to move upwards,
potentially straight into your home.
Non-repellent barriers remove this risk by enabling controlled exposure, allowing termites to move through the treated zone without immediately detecting it. This results in the “transfer effect,” where exposed termites pass the active agent to others, ultimately destroying the colony.
How Termite Barriers are Installed
The process begins with a thorough termite inspection of your property to identify current activity, potential entry points, and environmental factors. We then:
Trench around the perimeter of the property to apply treatment to the soil.
In paved or concreted areas, drill holes are used to inject the chemical into the soil beneath.
Refill and seal the soil or surfaces to maintain your property's appearance and integrity.
Monitor and maintain the barrier as needed, including scheduled termite inspections.
This creates a complete treated zone around the structure — a silent sentinel guarding your home 24/7.
